On the one hand, adults began to do home office and, on the other, girls and boys had to take classes remotely. According to data from the National Institute for the Evaluation of Education (INEE), isolation in Mexico caused approximately 30 million students, of all educational levels, to stop attending school in person.
After months of restrictions, finally last school year, it was decided to return to the classrooms in person, in a staggered manner and with sanitary measures. However, with the emergence of new strains and concerns in the healthcare field, it is worth asking how mature is the educational model in its hybrid format? And what needs to be strengthened so that the right to education can be guaranteed at all times during this new year?
Although online education has boomed during the pandemic, there is still a long way to go. It is estimated that in the next five years the traditional educational model and the online model will be significantly integrated, which in turn will result in the emergence of the “omnichannel student”, which will be nourished by face-to-face education tools, but also digital, both synchronously and asynchronously.
These changes are at an early stage; However, today there are educational trends that unite technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide more personalized learning.
AI, defined as a set of orders capable of performing human actions taking into account reasoning and behavior, is closer than we think. The digitization of various sectors caused academic institutions to start using tools that allow students to receive personalized learning suggestions, based on their abilities, achievements and interests, going beyond the skills of transcripts and classic curricula.
This means that schools are able to map and examine each learning experience on and off campus, in competencies and capacities that reflect true learning, not just grades and academic merits.
Also, the evaluation method was positively impacted, since the student, from the comfort of his home, can now be qualified according to the elaborated capacities and not only by the memorized content. Intelligent remote monitoring enables schools to maintain the credibility of academic performance and help check the proficiency levels of students online, removes the likelihood of plagiarism and the use of authorized supports.
