Before these determinations, Amazon was the only large technology company that had not taken business measures due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, even though the largest capitalization groups in the world (Apple, Microsoft and Alphabet) had already taken some initiative.
One of the reasons why Amazon had not taken measures in Russia regarding e-commerce is that its market share in this sector is not comparable to that of China’s AliExpress or that of local operators, such as Ozon.
The EFE agency highlighted that among the 20 largest capitalized companies in the world, there are other relevant absences in the sense that they have not announced measures around Russia, such as Tesla, Berkshire Hathaway, Nvidia, the financial JPMorgan Chase or Walmart, the largest chain of supermarkets in the world.
On the other hand, technology companies such as Apple stopped the sale of their products in Russia, in addition to limiting access to their payment system. Microsoft has also suspended sales of products and services, as well as protecting Ukraine’s cybersecurity, while Google cut off Russia from its advertising business.
