We have been hearing rumors for months about the launch of a new MacBook Air. The event peek performance, where the renewal of the iPhone SE and iPad Air was announced, as well as a new Mac Studio and a Studio Display, seemed the right date for the announcement of this laptop. Apple, however, did not reveal a single detail of the aforementioned equipment. Now, Mark Gurman (Bloomberg), suggests that its launch has been delayed until the second half of the year and also ensures that new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros are not expected for this 2022.
It is therefore likely that the team will be announced during the months of September and October, and not during the first six months of the year, as planned. Gurman’s information coincides with that of Ming-Chi Kuo, who also suggested an announcement for the end of 2022, given that production would start during the second or third quarter of the year.
Kuo also revealed that the 2022 MacBook Air may not arrive with the M2 chip, but would keep the M1 of the current model. Nor do you expect it to include a mini-LED screen, another of the most anticipated novelties for this team. Gurman has not mentioned details about the features, but previously revealed that the 2022 MacBook Air could arrive with a completely new design – a novelty in which Kuo also agrees – the inclusion of a MagSafe port and an M2 chip, among other new features.
New MacBook Air and also a new MacBook Pro, but nothing 14 or 16 inches
In parallel, the journalist from Bloomberg has stated that this year we will not see new MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inches. These models, let’s remember, were announced in 2021 with two new processors, a completely different design and new features, such as the return of the MagSafe port or a mini-LED screen with ProMotion technology. Nevertheless, the company could announce a “basic” MacBook Prowith a size of 13 inches and slightly lower specifications than the MacBook Pro of 2021. This model, in particular, could arrive with the M2 chip, which, although it will be more powerful than the current M1, will not exceed the performance of the M1 Pro and M1 Max.
In this way, the MacBook Air would position itself as a product focused on basic users or students, and the 2022 MacBook Pro for professionals who do not need such a powerful computer, such as the 14- and 16-inch ones, to work.
