We are quite used to learning about Apple's plans through leaks and rumors. In most cases, they are quite accurate predictions, in others, like the one we are dealing with today, totally far from the current Apple's plans. And Ming-Chi Kuo assures that the company is working on a new c20-inch foldable MacBook concepttotally flexible, which would arrive sometime in 2027. As usual, the analyst does so without providing a single indication of it.
According to Kuo, Apple's plan to launch a foldable product does not go through the iPhone, but only for the foldable MacBook with a 20-inch flexible screen mentioned. And how would it be? Well, as we say, it doesn't give a single detail, but we can get an idea that the size mentioned would be with the device completely folded diagonally across the screen, that is, open.
However, this would also be quite strange. If the 20 inches occupy the entire diagonal of the product at its maximum size, folding would be limited to 10 inches per screen, and that is discounting the space that the frames or the folding system would occupy, so it is not very clear that something that is already conceptually strange is a reality in the Apple catalog.
A folding MacBook that sounds as spectacular as it is uncertain
Also, the dates don't add up much either. We are talking about that according to Kuo, the folding MacBook would be in production in 2027, which is just 3 years away for a technology that still has many pending issues, despite the fact that it has been with us on the market for some time. However, it is quite limited to small devices, and the number of devices of that size that have arrived massively on the market, improving current technology, is testimonial.
Perhaps the most similar to the concept that Kuo proposes are the ThinkPad X1 Fold and the ASUS Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, to name a few. Although they are two all-screen and foldable devices, the truth is that their limitations are visible, and it is very strange that Apple takes a path for its device in which the central fold takes all the attention.
If we pay attention to previous rumors, the possibility of a folding MacBook has always been discussed. But the absolute lack of details, and the severity with which Kuo even puts a release date, only cast more doubts on a plan that, taking into account the case of the iPhone, already ruled out, is presenting quite a few difficulties to Manzana.
