Apple wants to completely remove the notch from its iPhone to start a transition to under-display cameras, and could do so in 2023, according to a new rumor from Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). The analyst, who is usually completely right in his predictions, has assured in his Twitter profile what the firm plans to remove the notch on all iPhone 15 modelsincluding the two basic variants.
The Cupertino company, let us remember, could announce the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro in September, the new generation of smartphones that, according to the latest rumors, will arrive with important design innovations. One of the most anticipated changes is that replacement of the notch, which will become a small pill-shaped hole located in the upper area of the screen. Only the iPhone 14 Pro, yes, will be able to enjoy this improvement, because the base models – iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max – will keep the notch that we see in the iPhone 13.
Ross Young, however, points out that Apple’s roadmap for under-display camera technology is to implement a hole in all 2023 models. Therefore, lThe company will say goodbye to the notch with the iPhone 15. The CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants assures that this strategy is being carried out taking into account “the technical challenges that remain for the panel cameras to meet the quality requirements of the most demanding brands, as well as the cost requirements of panel manufacturers.
Apple hopes to include Face ID under the screen in 2024
The roadmap provided by the head of Display Supply Chain Consultants also shows that, in 2024, the iPhone 16 will maintain that small area for the TrueDeph sensor. Pro models, on the other hand, will have Face ID under the panel, leaving only a hole for the selfie camera. It would not be until 2025 when Apple implements Face ID sensors under the screen in all iPhone models. In 2026, in addition, they expect the iPhone 18 Pro to include both the TrueDeph camera sensors and the selfie camera inside the panel, leaving the screen fully visible.
Meanwhile, it is expected that iPhone 14 Pro increase your visible screen size, since the hole will take up less space on the front. The base models, in addition, would come with ProMotion technology, which is now only exclusive to the Pro versions.
