The location, the dimensions and the spectacular terrace make this duplex penthouse an element of luxury in whose interior you can breathe good design and the discretion of neutral tones and natural elements.
Completely refurbished by Serradell architecture studio, The property located in the upper part of Barcelona has 200 m2 of interior space and the same number of exterior spaces spread over two terraces. White, black and oak wood dress it from the inside to give life to this family home, where the luxury is in the size of spaces and in the quality of the finishes.
New distribution
The reform included a studied change of distribution. The key to the new distribution was to get change the kitchen from its original location and relocate it with access to the terrace. From there, a house was designed that takes advantage of its possibilities by creating generous spaces.
The house has a 40 m2 living room, a large kitchen with a pantry, an ironing room, five bedrooms, the main one en suite with a dressing room, four bathrooms and two large terraces.
With the new distribution, the day area is located in the east area of the attic floor and the night and rest area in the western part of the same floor and the upper one. Other elements of luxury, of those that are not seen a priori, but that are felt and enjoyed by its users on a daily basis, is that the house has the latest advances in home automation and has an efficient consumption since it has solar panels and aerothermal system with underfloor heating.
The day zone; A fireplace connects the kitchen and living room
The generous size of the living-dining room does not prevent it from being a very cozy and warm space. The furniture, made entirely to measure and designed by the architecture studio, is integrated into the interior architecture. Throughout the project, natural oak wood plays a crucial role and its design, generating vertical lines, is a motif that is repeated in the house. The study uses this theme to zone, to give unity and coherence to the house as well as to provide warmth and elegance in equal parts.
The kitchen is semi-open to this space thanks to a glass slider framed in black. Intimacy is achieved thanks to the furniture that acts as a partition, completely made to measure, in pristine white and oak wood. In this way, everything is in its place, TV and audio equipment, library, kitchenware, etc… nothing hinders the view or the passage.
A sophisticated detail, which provides decorative coherence, is the connection between kitchen and living room thanks to a glass body in the lower part of the dividing unit, where an ethanol fireplace, visible from both rooms.
Vertical dynamism in the stair area
In the hall that leads to the staircase, the purity of lines is achieved through the vertical wooden slats, the theme that is repeated in several rooms. The vertical lines create a dynamic sensation of movement and evolution. Its rhythm is enhanced by vertical lighting and on this wall the staircase with large white steps with an ultra-compact surface that includes a camouflaged glass railing seems to “fly”.
The warm rooms with custom furniture
All rooms have been designed with custom furniture. In the main room and, in keeping with the aesthetics of the house, the headboard wall is lined with thin vertical wooden slats framed by a thicker one, which resizes the space and gives it greater depth.
Black and wood bathroom
The proposal for one of the bathrooms in the house combines the sophistication of absolute black with the warmth of wood.
Vertical wooden slats descend from the ceiling to the front wall, contrasting with the black and creating a great effect of visual dynamism, which is enhanced by LED lighting. The gray stone sink stands out against the white of a Krion surface by Porcelanosa.
Two cozy terraces
The terrace is undoubtedly the key space of the duplex. Even more so when it occupies a corner area between the two floors and has this important size.
The decorative thread of the interior, comfortable and warm, continues on the terraces thanks to comfortable furniture and an exterior pavement of great resistance and quality that emulates wood. Rest areas have been arranged with sofas and hammocks, planters and plants and even a small urban garden.
A house that defines luxury in terms of comfort, functionality, quality finishes and eco-efficient criteria.

It has inspired us:
Although the luxury lies in the size and quality of the finishes in the house, the scarce furniture on the floor (most of it is custom-made) stands out for its straight, sober and elegant lines, such as the aluminum-framed seats and straight lines of the terrace similar to this one at El Corte Inglés.
