José Medina Mora Icaza, leader of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), affirmed that the electricity reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will cause an outflow of capital and new investments will no longer arrive for the generation of electricity in the country.
“With the conditions established by this electricity counter-reform, what will happen is that no new investment will arrive and also the existing investment will leave the country,” said the businessman.
According to the leader of the employers’ body, the outflow of capital will cause job losses and to avoid this there is already an open dialogue with deputies and senators.
The plan of the private initiative is to organize a legislative forum with the coordinators of the benches of all the parties to discuss the electricity reform proposed by the President of the Republic.

“It is not about supporting the people or supporting interests, but it is about supporting Mexico and that we all have to do and in that sense, that is why we summon experts and summon the different political forces of the country so that in that discussion in an open parliament ”, declared the president of Coparmex.
An electricity reform must be applied for the benefit of the country and the citizens so that they retain their jobs and the conditions for adequate development for the country, said José Medina Mora Icaza.
He added that the electrical reform is going in the opposite direction to the one due: “It is as if a car enters the Peripheral in the opposite direction, what generates, in addition to chaos, is that there are collisions”.
Making changes to the Constitution to regulate the electricity sector, he added, is not the way in which the industry should be supported for the proper development of Mexico.
“This reform goes against the rule of law where retroactivity is applied to company contracts that are established with the laws that are in force today, it threatens the environment by betting on developing electrical energy with fossil fuels instead of clean energy” , I consider.
Also, he assured, López Obrador’s electricity reform goes against the economy of families because the costs that the CFE has are twice what the most modern plants cost.

“It costs the CFE 1,600 pesos per megabyte / hour, when the most modern plants cost half 800 pesos per megabyte / hour,” said the business leader.
The generation of electricity with solar energy and wind energy costs the fourth part that the CFE pays to produce it, that is, 400 pesos per megabyte / hour, he added.
“It is important to bet on new technologies and clean energy, if the government wants to lower rates,” he added.
With the president’s electricity reform, it will be more expensive for the CFE to produce electricity and users will have to receive a subsidy, which means that all Mexicans will have to pay it, the Coparmex leader warned.
