President AMLO minimized the attacks on UBER drivers by unionized taxi drivers in Quintana Roo.
He said in a conference that the problem is already being addressed by Governor Mara Lezama.
The President also assured that there is already dialogue between both parties to resolve the problem.
Today, during the press conference “La Mañanera”, the President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) was consulted about the resolution of the case of UBER and the attacks suffered by both tourists and enforcement workers in the state of Quintana Roo.
Let us remember that this issue has escalated to international news, with the intervention of the government of USAwhen the embassy issued a statement to tourists to protect themselves from attacks by taxi drivers and public transport drivers:
“Car services like Uber and cabify They are available in many Mexican cities and generally offer another safe alternative to taxis. However, official complaints are filed against Uber and other drivers, and past disputes between these services and local taxi unions have occasionally turned violent, resulting in injuries to US citizens in some cases.
Likewise, it was reported a few hours ago that, due to the riots caused after the resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) In order to give enforcement drivers the opportunity to operate in the area, Mara Lezama, who is the governor of the state, would seek to resolve the conflict through operating rules for the free transit of both parties.
AMLO minimizes attacks against tourists by UBER operation in Quintana Roo; “they are exaggerating”
President AMLO was questioned this morning about the attacks by the taxi drivers’ union on application drivers and about the specific actions that have been taken both by the Government of Mexico as well as that of the federal entity, with which it was pointed out that the attacks have escalated from verbal threats to retention of units and passengers.
In addition, there was talk about the blockade of taxi units on the avenue that connects the airport with the hotel zone, in protest against the arrests of other unionized workers for these actions.
However, the President pointed out that, as the state governor mentioned yesterday during the press conference, the safety of tourists and their smooth transfer to the airport are guaranteed despite these protests. “They are already looking for a solution to the matter. That’s what she informed us yesterday. She is taking care of him, ”she assured.
In the same way, the president said that the actions will not escalate to a higher level because “there is dialogue” between both parties. With this, the President said:
“They have to solve that there. We have confidence in him. Tourists keep coming. There are more and more tourists arriving in Quintana Roo. They are in some cases. There are days when 700 planes leave and land at that airport. There is already a ban on private flights, certain days, at certain times. It’s saturated. This case is already being resolved. It caught my attention that there was too much diffusion.
When it was emphasized that the videos presented on the networks had been “very strong”, the Chief Executive pointed out the following:
“It is that they are interests, and when money is involved, when it comes to bills, well, things are always magnified. And if you add to that that they want there to be problems in Mexico all the time… but no; […] suddenly in the media they inflate the problems and become trending topic. […] If I had seen the governor worrying or asking me for help… do you know how long the blockade lasted? Four hours. There was an incident of an American tourist being taken out of a car. Yes, regrettable all that, and reprehensible. But there is much more to the propaganda against it than what is happening. They are exaggerating a little“.
