Expropriation of Ferrosur tracks
Last Friday, May 19, the temporary occupation of lines Z, ZA and FA in favor of the Ferrocarril del Istmo de Tehuantepec , which were in operation by Ferrosur. The argument was the Interoceanic Corridor project, one of the key works of the administration.
“For the efficient operation of the logistics platform, it is imperative to have control and administration of all the railway lines that comprise the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, among which are the sections currently under concession to Ferrosur, SA de CV, to eliminate failures and inefficiencies in the transportation, storage, and distribution chains,” said the decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
Although Grupo México was surprised by the seizure of the facilities, which according to the company was carried out by armed personnel from the Navy, the president assured in his morning conference that it is a “rescue of the concession” and not a ” expropriation”.
rights of way
López Obrador explained that the use of the 120-kilometer stretch of track granted in 1998 to Ferrosur will be resolved under the concept of “rights of way.”
“If the trains of the Sedena company (Grupo Aeroportuario, Ferroviario y Servicios Auxiliares Olmeca-Maya-Mexica) go to Veracruz, and cross the section of Medias Aguas concessioned to Grupo México, then Sedena pays a fee there. But if Grupo México enters, then it pays a fee,” the president exemplified.
“What is going to be negotiated is an agreement… But no money, nothing,” said the president.
Disagreements over the 120-kilometer stretch would have led to complications for a key corporate agreement in the country, after Wednesday Citigroup abandoned plans to sell its local retail banking business, a transaction in which Grupo México was listed as one of the main bidders.
