Two months later, a majority of employees at another Apple store in Towson, Maryland voted to form the union.
According to US media, Apple has hired a law firm expert in union issues and compiled a series of “talking points” so that its management teams can discourage employees from joining a union.
Another case that drew a lot of attention was that of the Starbucks workers. From December 2021 to June 2022, the employees of the cafeteria chain had managed to form 115 unions within the company since last December, according to the EFE news agency.
The Starbucks United Workers Union denounced that the company had launched, as of June 2022, 270 legal actions against as many attempts at union organization throughout the country.
According to the unionists, quoted by the EFE news agency, the company has resorted to all kinds of tactics, such as the expulsion of some leaders, the closure of cafeterias where all employees had voted for the union, and the hiring of a law firm known for its anti-union tactics.
Joe Biden has also repeatedly shown his support for workers joining unions.
“My father used to say ‘Everyone has the right to be treated with dignity.’ And that’s what the union is all about: dignity. It provides dignity to people who deserve to be treated differently,” the president said at a White House conference on September 8, 2021.
