América Móvil has registered that users migrated to the prepaid model, given the concern about the decrease in income that Covid-19 has generated in a part of the population, and therefore they avoid contracts for 18 months. Yesterday, the company controlled by Carlos Slim reported that its prepaid revenues increased 12.1% and those of postpaid clients increased 4.7%, while the average revenue per user (ARPU) was 159 pesos, 4.9% more than the previous year.
“I still think that in Mexico people are a little worried about the pandemic and maybe they don’t want to have an 18-month rental contract or something like that, but they are moving to prepaid,” he said.
The company registered a net profit of 18,902 million pesos during the third quarter of 2021, which meant a fall of 16.4%, compared to the 15,811 million of the same period last year.
On the other hand, it explained that it expects to complete the sale of its United States subsidiary TracFone before the end of 2021, since in September América Móvil reached an agreement with Verizon to sell its business for 6.25 billion dollars.
