The architecture ARM It is, without a doubt, the future of personal computing. Apple has proven that Apple Silicon chips can not only deliver fantastic performance, but also be more energy efficient compared to the x86 Intel chips they have integrated in the past. For this reason, AMD and NVIDIAtwo giants in the sector, have set their sights on the ARM architecture to develop their next processors for computers.
According to the information of Reuters, AMD and NVIDIA are stepping on the accelerator to have their ARM processors ready for PCs as soon as possible. In fact, both companies intend to launch them at some point in 2025. Without a doubt, it is surprising news, since these products were expected to reach the market some time later.
However, both AMD and NVIDIA are clear that, with Apple dominating its own market, the market for Windows computers remains practically free. Although Microsoft has launched some models with ARM SoCs signed by Qualcomm, at the moment they do not receive the same priority as the x86 variants.
The idea of AMD and NVIDIA, then, is hit first and very hard. Intel does not seem to have any interest in following that path in the near future, while Qualcomm is just taking its first steps alongside Microsoft. Consequently, they have an almost clear path to leading the sector from 2025.
If AMD and NVIDIA launch their ARM processors, Microsoft will have two new partners with which it can join forces. Intel, which remains the main reference for the x86 architecture, could be relegated if it does not accelerate its strategy.
To a certain extent, this situation is reminiscent of his late action when smartphones began to become popular after the success of the first iPhone. Let us remember that Intel had the opportunity—given by Steve Jobs himself—to design and produce the chip for said terminal, but they did not dare to take the step.
