That Amazon He has been exploring the world of health for some time, it is not new. What is curious is its most recent release: RxPassa new drug subscription for Amazon Prime members. It allows clients to receive the medicines they need at their doorsteps, in exchange for 5 dollars a month.
It is worth clarifying that RxPass works only with prescription drugs medical, and not with those over the counter. Therefore, users must always present a valid prescription.
According to reported Amazon, the service will provide access to commonly prescribed generic drugs for the treatment of more than 80 health conditions. These include allergies, gastrointestinal problems, hyperthyroidism, high cholesterol, seizures, epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, skin problems, and diabetes, just to name a few. It is worth clarifying that, in the case of diabetic patients, RxPass does not include insulin.
Another interesting point about this new subscription for Amazon Prime members is that they do not have to pay $5 for each medicine or prescription, even if they make multiple requests in the same month. The rate is fixed includes the cost of home deliveryand adds to the monthly price that users already pay for the services provided by the firm founded by Jeff Bezos.
RxPass, the new Amazon Prime monthly drug subscription
When it comes to drug deliveries, RxPass gives Amazon Prime members two options. They can choose to have the medicines delivered to their home monthly or quarterly. In addition, customers have the option to unsubscribe from the service at any time.
The new Amazon Prime drug subscription is available only in the United States. In fact, the company run by Andy Jassy indicates that the service works “in the vast majority of states” in that country, but does not specify in which it may not be available. Additionally, those enrolled in government health care programs—such as Medicaid or Medicare—will not be able to sign up for RxPass.
For now, it is unknown if Amazon plans to launch this service in other countries where Prime memberships are also offered in the future. However, it seems unlikely. At least in the short term.
This is because RxPass is a subscription managed by Amazon Pharmacy, the online pharmacy that the corporation launched at the end of 2020. It works only in the United States, and it is not known if there is a possibility that it could work under the same business model outside of North America. Especially, due to the strict regulation of the pharmaceutical industry in different parts of the world.
What this new service does demonstrate is that Amazon is stepping more and more strongly in the American health market. Last November, the company launched Amazon Clinic, a virtual medical assistance service that doubles as a messaging platform. The system was designed for the treatment of common conditions such as acne, conjunctivitis, acid reflux and allergies, among others. However, in this case it is not a subscription included in the Amazon Prime membership, but a kind of bridge with online clinics that charge their patients fixed fees.
