The DC Extended Universe never managed to get through a good time. started with Superman: Man of Steel in 2013, directed by zack snyder as a reboot of the superhero franchise, followed by batman v superman in 2016. The latter was also a way of rebooting Batman, which came from Nolan’s very successful trilogy. Although the first was successful, the second was a critical flop.
From then on, except Wonder Woman Y Shazam! It has been a total disaster. The Justice League, Aquaman, Black Adam, Birds of Frey, suicide squad and its sequel have either had poor reviews or performed poorly at the box office. Added to that, the confusing time lines, of productions with DC characters, but that are not within the Extended Universe, as was the case with the solo film of the joker and its future sequel. There is also the case of Snyder Cut of The Justice League, adding even more complexity. It was no surprise when Warner Bros decided to pause and restart everything.
Along with the plan to start with the DC Extended Universe from scratch came the hiring of peter safran Y James Gunn as directors of DC Studios to design a plan for ten years of productions. The objective is to complete with Marvel in a more orderly way, and with greater creative control.
Gunn and Safran announced that the first production after rebooting the DC Extended Universe would be a new Superman origin film. But that the rest of the titles would be revealed later, at the beginning of 2023. This is one of the reasons why Henry Cavill leaves the character.
They have not yet been revealed, but thanks to the leak of a slide In a presentation during an internal meeting, we have the name of the productions that will reach the DC Extended Universe during its first phase.
The productions of the first phase of the new DC Extended Universe:
A badly taken photo of the projected slide during an internal meeting at the DC Studios offices was enough to know the first five productions. These constitute part of the first phase of the Extended Universe:
- Superman: The Last Son (late 2024)
- Green Lantern: The Ring of Power (Summer 2025)
- *Teen Titans: Judas Contract (late 2025)
- Night of Arrow (early 2026)
- Justice League: Tower of Babel (late 2027)
From the timeline in the filtered slide graph, everything seems to indicate that the first phase of the DC Extended Universe is made up of only those five movies.
Flash, the character’s solo film with Ezra Miller seems to go ahead, as long as his scandals allow it. Its premiere is scheduled for June 16, 2023.
