Where will the 2022 Firefly Festival be?
This year, the event will be held in the Protected Natural Area of the Tlalpan Forestsouth of Mexico City and in other venues such as the Zacango Zoo, located in Santa María, Nativitas, in the State of Mexico, south of Toluca.
There are different activities for both venues, some will be face-to-face and others will be broadcast live.
In Tlalpan, there will be conferences by experts from UNAM and INECOL, on July 8 and 9, where the state of conservation of the firefly habitat in CDMX will be presented. The anthropologist Leonor Alejandra González will give a talk on Saturday, July 9, where she will talk about the “Encounter between humans and fireflies” from an anthropological perspective.
There will also be children’s illustration workshops and exhibitions of insects. However, due to habitat conservation issues, sightings in the Tlalpan Forest are not yet possible, but there are other options outside CDMX, run by Nanosapiens, an organization dedicated to the care of fireflies and the dissemination of science. around them.
