Apple plans to make the leap to the USB-C port on the iPhone 15. At least this is what the latest rumors suggest, as well as journalist Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) who revealed a few days ago that the Cupertino firm is already working on the design of an iPhone with this connector. 2023, therefore, will be the year in which the company says goodbye to its iconic Lightning connector to make the leap to a more versatile and standardized one. Smartphones, however, will not be the only devices to make this transition. So will the entire ecosystem of accessoriesincluding AirPods, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed.
Kuo highlights that Apple’s goal is to update all those products that currently have a Lightning port to include the USB-C connector. It is expected, therefore, that the AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Maxare launched with this technology from September September 2023. Also the MagSafe battery, which has a Lightning connector, as well as the peripherals for Macincluding Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboard.
“Other Lightning port products (eg AirPods, Magic Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse, MagSafe battery) would also switch to USB-C in the foreseeable future.”
Assures Ming-Chi Kuo in a new report shared by 9to5Mac.
It is unknown, yes, if these accessories will include new functions or simply be relaunched with this connector. While only including a USB-C port without adding new features or without completely upgrading the product for a new generation It may seem like a strange strategy, it is something that Apple has already done before. The AirPods Pro, for example, were recently updated with MagSafe technology, but kept the rest of the features that were released with the 2019 model.
The portless iPhone Apple is working on will have to wait
Additionally, Kuo has ensured that Apple intended to announce its first portless iPhone in 2021. The company, however, has not been able to meet this goal. The analyst highlights, yes, that they continue to work on it.
An iPhone without ports, remember, will allow charge only wirelessly, through the Qi standard. Also the connection of accessories, such as headphones, via Bluetooth. Apple, on the other hand, plans to eliminate the SIM card tray by taking advantage of the increasingly popular e-SIM, which only requires a QR code to be configured in the terminal.
The company could also bet on a wireless data transfer module on the iPhone. This would allow the device to be connected to the Mac to, for example, reset the device. This module is connected by a magnetic system and would also allow transferring files from the Mac to the iPhone or vice versa.
