Spoiler alert: This post contains numerous spoilers for Ahsokathe new series of Star Wars.
—
Ahsoka already has come to disney+. And she has done it stomping. The new series of Star Wars is the work of dave filoni. The creative director of Lucasfilm is the one who created Ahsoka Tano in 2008 and has been behind all the projects in which the character has appeared. Fans nickname Filoni as the “heir to George Lucas”. However, he for the first time has dared to contradict his teacher. Or at least go further. Literally.
The plot of the new project quickly focuses on the doors that were left open with the end of Star Wars: Rebels. That is to say, Ahsoka and the rest of the protagonists want to find the whereabouts of the Jedi Ezra Bridger and the evil Grand Admiral Thrawn. Both disappeared years ago in the Battle of Lothal, but rumors suggest that still alive somewhere. To find them, the heroine gets hold of a map that can reveal their location. That artifact, however, is stolen by the Shin Hati from the hands of Sabine Wren.
The young warrior of the Dark Side, with her master Baylan Skollgives the map to Morgan Elsbethwho debuted in season 2 of The Mandalorian and that she has now been discovered as a descendant of the Daughters of the Night of Dathomir. Thanks to her magic, she manages to open the galactic map. And what she shows surpasses anything known so far in the canon of Star Wars. At least until the premiere of Ahsoka.
A light emerges from the map that forms a galaxy. But later, a whole universe opens up before the villains of the series. And its focus passes to a second galaxy. “This is our galaxy. And that is our destiny. Grand Admiral Thrawn was banished there,” Morgan explains. “The route to Peridea?” Baylon asks, “The children of the Jedi Temple call it that, but those are stories. Fables.” “Fables based on truths,” Morgan replies. Both Thrawn and Ezra are very far from the already distant known galaxy.
how has it changed Ahsoka the canon of Star Wars?
The discovery of a second galaxy is something unprecedented in the 46 years that he has Star Wars. For the first time, the franchise has come out of the legendary phrase that George Lucas he wrote to introduce his saga to the world: “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…”. That mythical motto has been the beginning of all the main Star Wars films since the premiere of A new hope back in 1977. With Ahsokathis is broken forever.
It turns out that the universe Star Wars it is much larger than a single galaxy. Thanks to this resource, Filoni has just given the saga an even greater potential than he already had. The mysteries of that second galaxy (and, if confirmed, of all the others that may exist) are virgin ground on which to build virtually any story. For now, in Ahsoka everything seems to indicate that the protagonists will travel to that new place.
It is true that this is not the first time that Star Wars he tinkers with pushing his limits. It is the case of Unknown Regions and of the wild space, points located at the very edge of the galaxy. And even the planet Earth is part of the canon, as a metafictional wink. Out of canon, in the expanded universe LegendsThis possibility has also been explored. However, it has never been done in such a direct and ambitious way as in Ahsoka.
To find out more about how a second galaxy fits inside Star Wars we have to wait for the third episode of Ahsokawhich will premiere on Disney+ Wednesday August 30.
