Moon Knight (Moon Knight), now available on Disney+, is a strange journey through several scenarios at once. Or at least, it is in its first episode in which Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac) has been seen, in the middle of a strange dilemma. On the one hand, he is a normal man trying to deal with what appears to be a sleep disorder. On the other, a hybrid creature halfway between a normal superhero and something more complex to understand. But the recent premiere of the Marvel series has some problems showing the spinoff nature of his character. Especially when he decided to create the condition that Steven Grant is just one of Moon Knight’s personalities. It is a decision that, although it faithfully analyzes the original story, also poses several plot problems.
Grant’s inability and confusion to understand what is going on in his mind puts the series at a difficult point narratively. He not only must show the different plot lines through a single aspect of the character. At the same time, he introduces Marc Spector, the dominant personality in the original story, as one more piece of information. Or at least that is what the first chapter of the series suggests. The idea of multiple personalities as scenarios is analyzed in the argument. And in fact, C.knight moon it is an aspect that shows Grant’s, and later Spector’s, relationship with the mysterious. In other words, the series will try to narrate three narrative lines at once, linked with a main story. Do it, while your character must understand who he is and especially where his incomprehensible nature comes from.
All of the above leaves an open field for exploring dissociative personality disorder that Grant/Spector suffers. But also little to understand the power of moon knight. In fact, in the first episode there was barely a glimpse of the hero in the most aggressive aspect of him.
And it was precisely when all the personalities known until now of the hero were able to interact. The confusion reached a complex point when the character played by Isaac confronted himself in front of a mirror. The series used the resource to analyze and ponder on a critical issue. who is really moon knight?
The high points of a complex proposal
Of course, to show in how many ways the personality of moon knight It may be one of the strong points of the series. Although exploitation in its first chapter was more related to action and a certain confused air, it can evolve into other spaces. In particular, as all the personalities that make up Marc Spector are shown. It is a careful risk that the series travels for now in a play of light and shadow. Also in the ability of his character to split into various faces of good and evil.
It is interesting how moon knight discusses the idea of his character’s fractured mind. From blank spaces, memory loss, but in particular the perception of the self as an incomplete mosaic. It is clear that Steven Grant, the character’s weakest personality for now, will be the entry point to darker places in the plot. At various points in the episode, Khonshu and Marc Spector himself can be heard trying to guide and even manipulate him. And he is this distrustful, confused and bewildered man, the one who could unite the threads that bind your mind— nature — with something more powerful.
Of course, it is a measured risk. Starting with an alternate personality to Marc Spector creates the condition that the series must re-introduce his character in another episode. Or at least, thread the narrative threads towards more precise spaces. In that case, the first chapter was just an appetizer towards something more complex that is not shown yet. And whose last sequence only analyzes the power that boils within Grant / Spector tangentially.
The low points of a mystery in Moon Knight
With Grant being the most fragile and confused personality in Moon Knight, It only remains to hope that the series presents the strongest . Marc Spector, avatar of the God Khonshu and his fist in justice, appeared only in the final scene of the first chapter. He did it to make it clear that the strongest personality is that of Marc Spector. He also the one that is linked to the stratum of the divine.
In fact, in one of the scenes where the villainous Arthur Harrow tries to use his power against Grant, he is surprised by what he sees. “There are many things inside you,” says the character capable of seeing the present and future sins that he touches. But he is not referring only to Marc Spector’s actions, but possibly to all the personalities that inhabit his mind. The strange thing is that the series uses Grant’s confusion deviceto open the speculation if everything that happens is a hallucination. Or in any case, a symptom derived from his dissociative personality disorder.
But choosing a personality beyond Spector poses the situation that the character will have to go through a long journey to understand Spector. Moon Knight. Especially in the way the dissection of Grant’s personality is analyzed. He is not only completely unaware of the man who whispers to him from the mirrors. But also, its powerful link with the mysterious. Will the series be able to impale all the pieces of a convoluted story in just three chapters?

Much more worrying still, it turns out that the titular character will only appear after the power and relationship between Grant and Spector is resolved. Will it happen in the next chapters just like the first?; the appearance of Moon Knight Will it be conditioned to the identity crises of its characters? The conflict in the comic is more difficult but it deepens quickly. Spector and his other personalities coexist but by virtue of his usefulness. But the series has made the decision to give equal importance to all of them, to the detriment of his character. Could it affect the perception of the argument? it only remains to wait.
