Although for the moment the Steam deck, Valve’s portable platform that will have access to the digital store of this company, has not yet reached the hands of the players, its creators are already thinking of a model capable of running at 4K.
At the end of the year we will see the launch of the Steam Deck, which will only be able to run games on a screen with a resolution of 720p, something that has disappointed more than one. However, in an interview with Valve Product Designers Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Greg Coomer and Lawrence Yang, they talked about the possibility of creating a model capable of supporting 4K in the future. Here’s what Coomer had to say about it:
“I think we found what we consider to be a sweet spot around this screen size and the readability you can achieve on it. I guess for a lot of the games that we’re running on this device, it’s not a time for all the things we want this device to do, so it looks like it’s probably something to come in the future, but we really weren’t too worried. that’s why for this generation of the device. Achieving 4K and having a screen that runs at that resolution wasn’t really a design goal for us.
What would that device really look like? How long could those games run? How hot would it get? It’s a lot of balance and we are actually very happy with the current situation. You know, technology advances. Maybe in a year or two we really have something that becomes more possible. “
While it is possible to use the console dock and an HDMI cable to get 4K resolution on an external display, for the moment this will not be possible in portable mode, although in the future things may change. ANDn related topics, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has already tried the Steam Deck, and this is his opinion. Similarly, the dock of this console will not improve its performance.
