The feat was recorded in audio recovered from a radio tower in Fort Pierce, approximately 110 kilometers from the aircraft’s final destination.
In the recordings obtained by local media, the air traffic controller is heard asking about the position of the aircraft.
“It is understood. What is your position?”. “Try to keep the wings level and see if you can start going down for me. She pushes forward on the controls and descends at a very slow pace.”
“Try to follow the coast, either north or south. We are trying to locate you,” the air traffic controller added.
After the conversation they managed to locate the private plane on the radar in four minutes.
A local Palm Beach news affiliate, WPBF, was the first to report what happened, and according to the details the aircraft was a Cessna Caravan.
After the passenger had contact with the air traffic controller, he asked how to turn on the aircraft’s navigation screen.
The person responsible for guiding the craft safely to earth, Robert Morgan, later told the news outlet that he was not even familiar with the plane he was guiding, detailing that he used an image of the aircraft’s cockpit, a Cessna. Grand Caravan, to gather instructions for the passenger inside.
“Before I knew it, he said, ‘I’m already on dry land, how do I turn this off?'” Morgan told the US media.
