DJI has introduced the RS 3 Mini, a new stabilizer that we could define in two different ways: as a steroid version of the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 that is also compatible with cameras; or as a more compact and cheaper version of the DJI RS 3. Both options converge towards the same point: a product with a great construction, very portable and practical to obtain high quality footage.
The DJI RS 3 Mini weighs about 800 grams, but supports up to 2 KG of weight. For reference: a Sony A7SIII, often used for video, weighs 699 grams. A 24-70 f/2.8 GM II lens from the same company weighs 695 grams. Using both, therefore, would leave enough room for accessories like microphones, mounts to extend the battery, etc.
The lightness of the DJI RS 3 Mini not only makes it easy to transport; also the way it is used. In fact, It can be used with one hand in a relatively comfortable way. And, once folded, it hardly takes up space in any transport backpack.
The DJI RS 3 Mini It has the third generation stabilization algorithm of the brand, which promises exceptional results even in complex situations –such as low angles–. It also offers the ability to record vertical video natively, which is highly appreciated considering the growing popularity of the format.
The product can be connected via cable or Bluetooth as long as the camera is compatible. If this is the case, this connection allows you to activate the shutter from the stabilizer itself or even control the zoom camera – if the lens allows it – with the slider wheel located on the grip. On the side, it also has a NATO port for accessories.
Regarding autonomy, DJI RS 3 Mini promises up to 10 hours per charge. To recover, he needs 2.5 hours. More than enough figures to face a day of recording at a professional level without fear of a failure of the product.
To control various parameters, the stabilizer has a 1.4-inch touch screen –accompanied by various buttons and dials–. However, it can also be controlled from an application for mobile phones. From this, for example, you can configure the modes time lapse, trajectory recording either Panorama.
