Apple still plans to announce the second generation of AirPods ProRumored to arrive with improvements to noise cancellation, a new case, and probably some dedicated health and fitness features. These, however, are not the only novelties that this product will include. A new report in the Bluetooth SIG database shows that Apple has registered a new device with Bluetooth 5.2a technology that will bring a series of advantages to Apple’s next wireless headphones, such as compatibility with LE audio, among others.
In the report, yes, Apple seems to have registered devices with Bluetooth 5.3, although it is really version 5.2. Well, according to Macrumors, the company tends to list the devices in the database with a higher version than indicated. It is something that, in fact, has already happened with the Beats Studio Buds, which are listed with Bluetooth 5.3 and, in fact, have Bluetooth 5.2. Therefore, the same could happen with the AirPods Pro 2.
Precisely, one of the main advantages of Bluetooth 5.2 technology is the inclusion of LE Audio, or Bluetooth Low Energy Audio. This standard is, in fact, the one that will allow AirPods Pro 2 to enjoy some improvements over the current generation. LE Audio, for example, can improve the sound quality of wireless headphones thanks to the new LC3 codec. This, in addition, can work at frequencies of up to 248 Kbps. Therefore, it will allow you to listen to music in high quality through Apple Music, since the company offers the possibility of selecting the reproduction of songs at 256 Kbps, a similar frequency.
Battery life and audio streaming improvements for AirPods Pro 2
Another improvement is related to autonomy. Again, thanks to the LC3 codec, which is considerably more efficient than the SBC codec, which is included in devices with Bluetooth version 5.1 or lower. This would not only allow increase battery life of the AirPods Pro 2. It also offers Apple the possibility to modify its design, either reducing its weight or size, and maintaining the same duration as current models.
LE audio, on the other hand, also offers the possibility of connect more than two earphones at the same time on a single iPhone. It is also capable of stream sound simultaneously to both earphones. The second generation AirPods Pro, therefore, would also offer better synchronization in sound.
According to rumors, the second generation AirPods Pro could arrive before the end of 2022. It is not clear if Apple will announce them during the event scheduled for next September 7, where the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 will be announced, as well as possible new iPad. The company, however, could also announce them through a press release. Or, through a second event during the month of October, as it also plans to announce new Macs before 2023.
