Torruco has a meeting scheduled with the Tourist Tianguis Evaluation Committee this weekend. He will then meet with hotel, bar and restaurant owners to draw up a detailed recovery plan for the port. This step is considered crucial to ensure that Acapulco can successfully host the tourism event and leverage it as a catalyst for economic revitalization.
Turruco added that hotels can have a quick recovery, which will depend on the insurers, who will be in charge of evaluating damages and working with the owners of the complexes.
The head of Sectur revealed that the estimated cost of recovery amounts to 61.3 billion pesos, a figure that coincides with the previous projections of the presidency of the Republic. Torruco stressed that, although insurers are still defining the exact amount of damages, the main focus now is the restructuring necessary to host the Tianguis, an event that is expected to be a key driver for the local economy.
“Being able to have the Tourist Tianguis in Acapulco will be a catalyst for the economy,” said the secretary, highlighting the strategic importance of this event to trigger the recovery of the port as a tourist destination.
