After the euphoria of the Super Bowl, it is time to detoxify ourselves with another American league that in my opinion is the best, because of what they have done and how they have done it, besides the fact that I practice and am a fan of burst sports: the NBA.
So, as the Super Bowl is coming to an end, the great entertainment of the NBA, the All-Star Weekend, is approaching. In other articles I have already told you about all the advances and innovations that the NBA has implemented. In their most spectacular and most festive weekend, they are not far behind either.
Before sharing the most important and interesting features for the version that will take place this entire weekend, specifically from Friday the 17th to Sunday the 19th of February, I am going to start with a bit of generalities and history.
According to Wikipedia, the NBA All-Star Game is a friendly game that takes place during NBA All-Star Weekend, in which only the best players of each year participate, divided into two teams that represent each conference (East and West, at least until 2017. Since that year, captains are appointed and they choose. Yes, like in the neighborhood). The main objective of the game is to give a show, therefore, on the same weekend there is also a skills contest, triples and another dunks (slammed, for the Mexicans). The first All-Star Game was held at the Boston Garden on March 2, 1951, and the greatest players in history have been brought together in one game for entertainment ever since.
Now, I want to share 3 news for this historic weekend that will also take place at the headquarters of my favorite team: the Utah Jazz.
- The All-Star Draft (or selection, as in the challenges) will be made just before the game, unlike other years when a few weeks before they already knew not only the players who would participate but also the choice of players was broadcast live between the two captains. Now, to make it out of ham, I mean, out of emotion, it won’t be known until the pregame on Sunday. Will serve? Will it impact more? We do not know, we will have to see the numbers. From the outset, they will not know who they will play with until minutes before. How will it affect? We’ll see.
- The Rising Stars will now include a representative from the G League. There will be 3 teams, then: the rookies, the sophomores and this new one, so that in a Final Four format with three games there will be a winning team.
- The way of voting has changed. NBA fans should remember how last year Andrew Wiggins, a good player but not the caliber to play in the all-star game, not only played but started thanks to a network campaign to achieve it (worst thing is that he did not This is the first time something similar has been tried. This year, to avoid that, it was only possible to vote through the app or the site, and avoid the simplicity or ease of “hacking”.
They say that none of the American leagues is registered as a sports league but rather as entertainment, and if the gringos know how to do one thing well, it’s entertain. So, if you want to have a good time this weekend, take a tour of this great show. Above all, for me the best is the 3-point contest and the dunk contest.
