Giuseppe Tornatore’s love song to the cinema and his childhood before it became a trend thanks to the Alfonso Cuarón, Pedro Almodovar, Kenneth Branagh and others. ‘Cinema Paradiso’ tells the story of a boy from a small Italian village who falls in love with moving images. The boy blindly believes that cinema is something magical; but, one day, Alfredo, the operator, agrees to teach the little one the mysteries and secrets that are hidden behind a movie. Salvatore is growing up and the time comes when he must leave the town and look for life.
Perrin memorably appears as the adult version of this Salvatore Di Vita, who will grow up to be a full-fledged filmmaker, clearly paralleling Tornatore himself. The Italian tape is quite a emotional classic that has endured the passage of time and generations, who all gather around the television to get lost in this story again. The moments of Perrin getting excited again in a room fully reflect that feeling of being in a movie theater and it is one of the reasons why moviegoers continue to love it.
