The economically active population – aged 15 and over looking for work – was 60.4 million people in October. But only 96.7% managed to find an occupation, that is, 54.8 million Mexicans.

The underemployed population -made up of those who declared having the need and availability to work more hours- was 4.4 million people (7.5% of the employed population). That is, a reduction of 1.9 million compared to October 2021.

And the unemployed population in October was 1,993,573 people, that is, 324,413 people less than in October 2021.

The majority of the employed population was concentrated in the services sector (42.9% of the total), commerce (19.8%), the manufacturing industry (16.3%), agricultural activities (12.1%) and construction (7.4%).

    labor informality

The employed population in labor informality was 32.4 million people and the Labor Informality Rate 1 (TIL1) was 55.4% of the employed population, 0.2 percentage points less than in the tenth month of 2021.

The population employed in the labor informality considers, without duplicating, those who are laborally vulnerable due to the nature of the economic unit for which they work, as well as people whose employment relationship or dependency does not recognize their source of work.

Thus, it includes —in addition to the population that works in unregistered micro-businesses or the informal sector— other similar modalities, such as the self-employed in subsistence agriculture, as well as those who work without social security and whose services are used by the registered economic units.
