In numbers, 15% of delivery women have suffered harassment from the staff of the businesses where they go to pick up an order, while 11% have had situations of harassment from customers.
“Delivery people earn 2,562 pesos per week on average. However, women receive lower income than men despite dedicating the same number of hours to work with applications, they earn 425 pesos less than the general average, which implies a wage gap of 18%. This means that for every 100 pesos that the delivery men receive, the delivery women receive 82 pesos,” the study points out.
The main motivation is also a challenge
The main motivation for women to enter the distribution with applications is the flexibility of schedules (44% indicate this reason, compared to 32% of men). However, many of them are heads of households, which means resorting to this type of application in order to support their children.
“Given that they do not have access to public care services, 34% of the delivery women work accompanied by their sons or daughters and the main reason they report in the survey is that there is no one else who is in charge of caring for boys and girls”, says Oxfam.
The situation affects female drivers, who have found in some options the opportunity to only serve women, in order to avoid problems of sexual harassment.
The DiDi Mujer program is still in the process of bearing more fruit for the Chinese mobility company, however the growth of driving partners is greater than last year, since it had an increase in registration of 103%, until November 2021 , in addition to a higher connection average, as there was 42% more activity on the platform.
