Known as the Mexican Schindler, Gilberto Bosques saved more than 40,000 people from the Nazis and fascism in Spain during World War II, when he served as Mexican consul in France.
Although his work occurred in the 20th century, this year he received the UNESCO Memory of the World recognition, posthumously.

The Mexican archaeologist received the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences this year, for being an indispensable figure in the dissemination of the pre-Hispanic world.
The award jury convened by the Princess of Asturias Foundation -heir to the Spanish throne- rewarded the 81-year-old researcher for his “intellectual rigor (…) to reconstruct the civilizations of Mexico and Mesoamerica, and to ensure that said heritage is incorporated objectively and free from any myth”.

Arthur Herrera
After completing his cycle by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Arturo Herrera Gutiérrez was elected to chair the Board of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. It is the body with the highest hierarchy in both institutions, from there it will maintain relations with the finance ministers and governors of the central banks of 189 countries.
Hector Grisi
Héctor Grisi Checa will become CEO of Grupo Financiero Santander globally, effective January 1, 2023, becoming the first Mexican to hold this position. Until now, he serves as executive president and general director of Santander Mexico, a position that he will hold until December 31, 2022, before replacing José Antonio Álvarez.

The Mexican received the Ortega y Gasset Award in the category of best photography, for her work as a photojournalist. The recognition of her was brought by the image of Sandra Monroy, a cancer patient who underwent a bilateral mastectomy that saved her life.
“I see it as a photo of bravery; touching. The women around Sandra are full of love and sisterhood; Beyond the idea of terror when talking about cancer, that photo speaks of life,” said the photographer from the Efe agency office in Mexico.
Natalia Lopez Gallardo
Born in Bolivia, but with Mexican nationality. The filmmaker Natalia López Gallardo was awarded the Silver Bear during the Berlinale 2022, for her film Manto de Gemas. The script, the direction and also part of the production of the film are also the work of the Mexican-Bolivian. The film deals with the issue of disappearances and drug violence through the story of three women.
William of the Bull
The filmmaker from Jalisco continues to reap successes, this time, the University Council of The National Autonomous University of Mexico approved giving Guillermo del Toro the honorary doctorate recognition for his contribution to the betterment of society and humanity through his artistic works.
This year, Guillermo del Toro returned to the nominations at the Oscars, with the film The Alley of Lost Souls.
Eugenio Derbez
The Mexican actor triumphed at the Oscars along with a whole cast of stars with the movie CODA. The comedy-drama follows the growth of a teenager, the only hearing-able in a family dedicated to a fishing business, as she pursues her dream of becoming a singer. CODA or Signs of the Heart won the 2022 Oscar for Best Picture and Eugenio Derbéz had a crucial role in the story.

Sergio ‘El Checo’ Perez He has had a meteoric year in Formula 1. To date and before the Dutch Grand Prix, the Mexican driver occupies second position in the F1 World Rankings, with 191 points, only behind his teammate Max Verstappen , with the Red Bull team.
Donovan Carrillo
At just 22 years old, the young Donovan Carrillo has already been a finalist, three times, in the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. This year, he was part of the Mexican delegation to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. He excited locals and strangers in the discipline with his performances and highly difficult jumps, he managed to advance to the final and came in 22nd place. He was the only Latin American in the test.

Genius girl will study medicine in Massachusetts
At just 10 years old, the Mexican Michelle Arellano, a girl from the Mexican southeast with an intelligence quotient (IQ) of 158, two points below Albert Einstein, will study medicine at the University of Massachusetts.
She is originally from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, speaks four languages and dreams of being a great doctor capable of curing cancer.
First Mexican to go to space
Katya Echazarreta an engineer by profession, became the first woman born in Mexico to reach space and the youngest American to do so.
In June of this year, a trip to space with the Blue Origin NS21 mission changed her way of seeing life, according to what Echazarreta herself narrated.
