QEV Technologies has introduced Zeroid, a new brand of electric vehicles. Serial production of these electric vans, trucks and buses, which will start sometime in 2023, will take place at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona.
The company specializing in the development and manufacture of electric vehicles, QEV Technologies, a company that is in charge of the decarbonization HUB of the Barcelona Free Zone, has just presented in society Zeroid. A new brand of 100% electric vehicles that will bear the “Made in Spain” stamp. And it is that they will be manufactured in the old Nissan plant.
The launch of the Zeroid brand of electric vehicles marks the beginning of the reindustrialization process of the old Nissan plants in Barcelona. The series production process of these new electric vehicles is scheduled to start sometime in the next year 2023. The established goal is to reach an annual volume of 60,000 units.
Zeroid electric vehicles, vehicles for fleets and urban services
Zeroid has made its debut in society accompanied by a line of sustainable vehicles and electric platforms for business fleets and urban services. The manufacture of these electric vehicles will mean the materialization of the first of the projects to reindustrialize the three Nissan production centers in Barcelona.
The estimated production of electric vans by 2023 will be 5,400 units while that of electric buses will be between 100 and 200 units. Joan Orús, CEO of QEB Technologies, has highlighted that they expect the creation of more than 1,000 jobs in a period of approximately 3 years: «Our goal in three years is to reach produce more than 60,000 units per year and generate more than 1,000 jobs in 3 years. We do not want nor can we lose all the human capital that exists in the Free Zone ».
QEV Technologies points out that the former Nissan staff has invaluable knowledge and the necessary experience to launch a project of these characteristics. Another of the determining keys of the project is to rely on local companies to boost the local economy: «A great opportunity arose to reindustrialize an area of automotive history in the surroundings of Barcelona. The automotive sector plays a strategic role in the Catalan and Spanish economy”, commented Orús.
Zeroid electric platforms
The top leader of QEV Technologies highlighted that the Zeroid brand is here to occupy a space in the mobility market in urban transport: «We are committed to this plant to move the industrialization line and bring to Spain the electric platforms for 8 and 12 meters and start with last-mile van platforms. Zeroid’s zero emission range includes three models of electric vans, delivery trucks and electric and hydrogen platforms for buses and heavy trucks.
Last but not least, QEV Technologies has shown interest in moving its “headquarters”, currently located next to the Circuit de Catalunya, to the plant in the Zona Franca de Barcelona.
