Boy Kills World seems to be based on the conventional structure of the comics, but with more gory overtones.
Sam Raimi is a renowned American director, screenwriter and producer. However, one of the most outstanding works in his career as a director was the Spider-Man character trilogy, which premiered during the 2000s. But, in addition to his praised collaborations with Marvel, it is worth mentioning that he always had a special interest in gore-tinged horror. This same motivated him to get involved in low-budget horror films, such as the Evil Dead trilogy, written and directed by Raimi, -being one of his first projects within the genre- in 1981. And, which later, gave rise to the sequels, a television series and a video game.
However, even though Evil Dead was one of his best-known projects in cinematography, his participation led him to direct other less well-known films, such as Darkman, A Simple Plan, Between Love and Gambling and Premonition, among others. In fact, he also showed some interest in acting, but ended up getting involved in directing and producing several feature films during his career.
After a long period of inactivity after the huge box office success of the Spider-Man trilogy, Raimi returned to the world of cinematography with nothing more and nothing less than Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. Therefore, before the premiere of this acclaimed installment of Marvel, expectations had increased and the result of this project was quite accepted.
The influences of Raimi’s fondness for horror can be seen in the construction of scenarios within Doctor Strange 2. In this way, its visual effects were one of the strong points of the film, while the construction of the characters and their interpretation also had their respective merit. But now that the premiere had its moment of success, the director has decided to continue with other projects.
Sam Raimi will present a new horror film
As we mentioned, the interests of the American director have always been related to dark themes and recently a conceptual video of the new film that he will produce in conjunction with Roy Lee, called “Boy Kills World”has taken up all the elements of gore and action, to immerse the audience in an atmosphere of tension.
Boy kills Worlds was announced in October 2021 and its filming began from February. The action thriller is based on a short film by Moritz Mohr, the latter making his feature directorial debut, and will star Bill Skarsgård, Jessica Rothe and Yayan Ruhian. Skarsgård will play the protagonist, Boy, a deaf and mute young man with a vivid creativity who is kidnapped to fight in the jungle after the murder of his family.
Thus, the video that shows the concept for Boy Kills World hints that this project is perfect for Raimi. For his part, co-producer Lee (who also produced It and the upcoming thriller Don’t Worry Darling) has shared several action sequences with bloody fights and a brief narration by Boy. Judging from the style of the scenes, the influence of comics is present throughout the video. For example, the clip compiles a series of choppy but quite stylized fight scenes, while we can hear the sarcastic comments from the protagonist. This, of course, gives the audience a panoramic perspective on the style of the film.
In addition, the trailer is very focused on its theme and it is exciting, since the plot is subject to a great unknown. In fact, these violent versions of action movies have become an alternative trend for those looking for more content beyond what the MCU and DC offer. Although the video is reminiscent of Dead Pool in a way, graphic novels already have their own space in cinematography.
It should be noted that Boy Kills World is not based on any specific comic. On the contrary, it is based on the mold of conventional comics and takes up the most significant elements of the genre. It has often been described as a “dreamy dystopian action movie”, but Boy Kills World is sure to pique the interest of its audience after this shocking trailer. The film is scheduled for 2023However, there is still not much information about the official date.
