Did you know that the end of year partys Can they help you “spy” what the work environment of your business is like?
It is known that it is not easy to evaluate the working environment of a company and in this sense, we could cite numerous tools and different perspectives, both theoretical and methodological, specially designed for these purposes: to accurately measure what the perceptions of the employees are, in the here-now of the company.
However, there is a clear indicator that provides all those with intentions and courage to read it in all its expression, key information on the progress of the business and it is, precisely, that of the annual entertainment that organizations decide to offer their staff.
Within our first experiences in consulting, I always remember a firm in particular and the concerned account of one of its managers. With a staff of close to seventy people, only five had attended the roast meat that closed this period of shared work.
In similar cases, surely the first reaction not only from the organizers but also from the leadership structure in the beginning is anger. Then follows the question of why. What are the reasons that determine such a fact?
What do the team’s end-of-year parties say?
It is necessary to point out that this kind of events updates and makes present in a very transparent way the ideas and emotions contemporary to the celebration; becoming a true staging of the thoughts of the collaborators. Thus, not only what has elapsed during a year is judged, but also has a direct impact on the situation of the company, giving rise to an articulation between the two. What’s more, sometimes an event close to a treat is capable of throwing away a whole year of coherent efforts. There are typical cases of an organization that closes an excellent period of profitability and does not grant any kind of recognition to its employees. And also its opposite: at the end of a gray year, promising market demands are presented for the following months, thus achieving a high-value motivational lever capable of influencing people and their subsequent attendance at the party.
Taking into account the above, it is critical when planning an event of these characteristics, to assess the moment of a human group and their beliefs regarding:
- The degree of satisfaction with the job and its tasks.
- The degree of compliance with the remuneration received.
- The incidence of union conflicts or turbulence.
- The health of the links between workers (intra and inter-areas).
- Modifications to internal processes, including the incorporation of technology, new production lines and changes in the management methodology in general.
In this way, we can avoid having a hard time and make the party as successful as we want it to be.
