Fabio Quartararo has achieved pole in the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix that takes place this weekend at the Mandalika circuit with a time of 1:31.067. After a bad start to the season, the current champion smiles again. Together with the French driver, the Pramac Racing duo will start from the front row. The Spanish Jorge Martín was second, while the Frenchman Johann Zarco set the third fastest time in Q2. Dramatic qualifying for Honda.
Rain and falls have marked the free practice sessions of this Grand Prix. Only FP2 was held in dry conditions so the times obtained in this session have marked the list of drivers present in Q1 and Q2. Among the riders who had to go to the first qualifying round were quite a few heavyweights in the category such as Pol Espargaró, Joan Mir, Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Márquez, who had suffered a crash in practice on Friday.

The eight times world champion went down again twice during Q1 in turns 13 and 12, which left him with no chance to fight for a place in Q2. His misfortune was just the tip of the iceberg on a disastrous Saturday for Honda. None of his bikes has managed to access the final qualifying session. In fact, the one from Cervera will start from the fifteenth position being the first motorcycle of the brand Japanese on the morning grill.
From the first moment of Q2, Quartararo made it clear that his goal was pole position. The 1: 31.6 that he marked in the first place was only the advance of the definitive 1: 31.067 that has earned him to be in the first drawer of the grid. Not even the final attempts of Martín and Zarco have managed to intimidate the ‘Devil’. Brad Binder has confirmed the good feelings of the previous sessions and has slipped into fourth position with the KTM, ahead of Enea Bastianini and Pecco Bagnaia.
The third row will be occupied by Miguel Oliveira with the second KTM, Álex Rins as the first representative of Suzuki and the Australian Jack Miller. The fourth line will be led by an Aleix Espargaró who has suffered a fall with his Aprilia. Fabio DiGiannantonio will start from eleventh position, ahead of Franco Morbidelli’s Yamaha, who also crashed in the opening minutes of the session.
