There are still products where Xiaomi does not offer its own version. One of them was alkaline batteries, but with the new Mijia Super Battery that has changed. Xiaomi launches a new product category, its first in-house designed and manufactured AA alkaline battery . A product that as usual in the brand, is offered at a very aggressive price to try to quickly find a place among the competition. In this case, a market dominated by established brands such as Duracell or Energizer.
The new Xiaomi batteries are AA batteries like the rest, but as the company promises, they will be “between 2 and 5 times more durable than conventional batteries” . Xiaomi does not specify what other batteries the comparison has made, although from the beginning it appears as a rival to Duracell.
Xiaomi’s new batteries weigh 16 grams
These Xiaomi AA batteries have some features that make them interesting. First is temperature resistance, promising that they will be able to maintain their performance at low temperatures, even below freezing. According to Xiaomi, the Mijia Super Battery are prepared to work even at -20ºC. What happens at high temperatures is not specified .
The interior design of these batteries has been modified, using larger negative and positive poles, with a single winding internal structure. As a result of this, Xiaomi batteries weigh 33% less than conventional batteries .
If we look at the AA batteries from Amazon or Duracell we see that their weight is about 22-23 grams. In the case of Xiaomi AA batteries it is reduced to only 16 grams, making its transport more comfortable.
The energy capacity of these Xiaomi batteries is 2,900 mAh, within the usual range of alkaline batteries that usually offer between 1,700 and 3,000 mAh.
The Xiaomi Mijia Super Battery will go on sale on May 20, for the moment only in China. Its initial price is 16.9 yuan, about 2.17 euros at direct exchange.
