One more week, a new build arrives at the Windows Insider Development Channel (Dev). Windows 11 continues to improve by leaps and bounds, fixing bugs, redesigning new parts of its interface, and adding features. This Build 22543 is the first since Microsoft’s announcement that the first major Windows 11 update will arrive in February.
What’s new in Build 22543
More natural voices for Narrator
We are introducing more natural voices for the Narrator. More natural voices allow Narrator users to enjoy situations such as browsing the Internet, reading, and writing emails, among others. Narrator’s natural voices use a state-of-the-art on-device text-to-speech system and, once downloaded, are compatible without an Internet connection. Natural Narrator voices are available in US-English.
Start
Narrator will announce that there are more natural voices, “Jenny” and “Aria”, when it first launches.
Select “Install Now” in the announcement window to go to the Narrator settings and add the new voices. From there you can select the “Add” button in the “Add Natural Voices” section. The dialog allows you to select the voice “Jenny” or “Aria”. Both voices can be installed but must be installed separately. You can click “Preview” to hear a preview of the voice and you can select “Install” to start downloading the selected voice.
The “Select a Natural Voice to Install” dialog box displays a list of natural voice preview, install, and cancel buttons.
New Narrator keyboard commands
Additionally, we’ve made it easy for Narrator users to change their voice to make common tasks like reading and navigating easier.
New Narrator key commands include:
- Narrator + Alt + the Minus key – Move to the previous voice in the Narrator voice settings combo box.
- Narrator + Alt + the Plus key: Move to the next voice in the Narrator voice settings combo box.
Updated key commands include:
- Narrator + Alt + the left bracket key: go to the previous punctuation reading mode.
- Narrator + Alt + Right Bracket Key: Go to the next punctuation reading mode.
Build 22543 changes and improvements
- Building on recent hardware indicator design changes, we’ve updated the media controls that appear on the lock screen when playing music in a supported app. The layout is more similar to the media controls that appear in the Quick Settings when you log in to the PC. Media controls will always use a dark theme to complement the rest of the lock screen’s visual style. [Estamos comenzando a desplegar este cambio, por lo que no está disponible para todos los Insiders todavía, ya que planeamos monitorear los comentarios y ver cómo funciona antes de lanzarlo a todo el mundo].
- We’ve updated the app window resizing experience in Snap Layouts by overlaying the corresponding app icon on top of the acrylic background.
- If you use the keyboard shortcut WIN + ALT + K to mute your call, a confirmation popup will now be displayed.
- The input switcher improvements announced in build 22518, including an updated design with an acrylic background, are now available to all Insiders in the dev channel.
- When performing a full build update, the progress ring animation has been updated, aligning with the updated boot screen animation.
- Updated the layout of System > Storage > Disks and Volumes and Storage Spaces in Settings to align with the general layout of Settings in Windows 11. Certain options for drive, volume, and space, such as properties, are now also available. available directly online on these pages as buttons without having to click on that entry first.
