What’s New in Build 22494
Turn the microphone on or off from the taskbar in a Teams call
Goodbye to awkward or embarrassing moments when you forget to turn your microphone on or off. Starting today with Microsoft Teams we will have a microphone icon that is automatically added to the taskbar when we are actively on a call. It is possible to see the audio status of a call, which application is accessing our microphone, and quickly mute and reactivate at any time.
When we join a meeting, we will see that the following icon appears instantly on the taskbar. The icon will be present throughout the call, so it is always accessible, no matter how many windows we have open.
Today this experience begins to be implemented with a series of Insiders in Microsoft Teams for work or school and will gradually expand. Not all of us will have access to this new icon, be patient as it will also take the integrated Teams Chat in the future. Other applications can also add this capability to their applications. The ability to mute or unmute the call only applies to the current call.
Changes and improvements in Build 22494
- They’re testing showing app pools in ALT + TAB and Task View with some Windows Insiders just like when you open apps on the taskbar and see them there. This is not available to all Insiders yet, as they want to check the reviews before offering it to everyone.
- If you are looking for file types or link types in Settings> Applications> Default applications, a drop-down menu of options is now displayed containing the current query without having to press enter first.
- If necessary, the installed apps settings page can now be launched in Settings> apps> installed apps directly via this URI: ms-settings: installed-apps.
- The sorting names have been adjusted by options in Settings> Applications> Installed applications to help make them clearer, and a new option to sort from smallest to largest size has been added.
Build 22494 fixes
Taskbar
- Tooltips should no longer appear in random places on the taskbar after hovering over volume, battery, network, or other icons in the corner of the taskbar.
- Fixed an underlying issue that caused an unexpected duplication of certain icons in the corner of the taskbar.
File Browser
- Fixed an issue that caused the context menu to crash for some people if they tried to scroll through it.
- Work has been done to address an issue where in certain areas of the screen context menu submenus would be drawn at the top of the context menu instead of next to it (for example, if you hovered over New).
- Context menu icons should be less blurry on mixed DPI multi-monitor systems now.
- Resolved an issue that could cause selecting Open With from the context menu to unexpectedly open the file in certain cases instead of actually opening the Open With dialog.
- Renaming files on the desktop is back in operation in this Build.
- Made another tweak to the underlying logic of the command bar to help improve the performance of command actions in File Explorer.
Search
- Fixed a recent issue that caused the indexer database to become too fragmented. This caused the indexer to unexpectedly consume a large amount of memory and CPU for an extended period of time. This was particularly noticeable for people who have large Outlook mailboxes.
Entry
- Mitigated an issue that caused certain applications to crash when trying to drag something with the Shift or Ctrl key pressed.
- Fixed an issue that caused the touch keyboard to not appear on tablets when tapping the text field if trying to reset the PIN from the login screen.
- Improved the reliability of the Pen menu.
Windows
- Eliminated some Explorer.exe crashes related to the use of window functions (snap, ALT + Tab and Desktops).
- When opening Task View on a multi-monitor system, the background will now be acrylic on both monitors.
- Fixed a couple of UI issues with window thumbnails in Task View and ALT + Tab, in particular that the close button could be cut off if the application window was too thin.
Setting
- Fixed an issue where facial recognition (Windows Hello) could unexpectedly fade in login settings in certain cases until you close and open settings.
- Fixed an issue where Storage Sense did not clean C: Windows System Temp.
- Standard users (aka non-administrators) should now be able to change the time zone in Settings if location access is not granted, instead of leaving the drop-down menu blank.
Others
- Fixed an issue that caused links to Windows Update, Recovery, and For Developers to display on the main Windows Update Settings page.
- Found a bug where images had a yellow tint in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and Adobe Lightroom Classic when in HDR mode.
- An issue related to DHCP which was causing unexpected power usage while screen was off in recent builds for some Insiders.
- They have worked to help address an issue where Service Host: WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service would unexpectedly use a large amount of CPU.
- Fixed an issue that could cause some devices to have a black screen when exiting sleep mode (where the lock screen would not display).
- Addressed an underlying issue that caused some Teams ARM64 users to experience increased Microsoft Teams crashes on the latest builds from the dev pipeline.
- They have increased the padding of the selected items as seen by clicking Show More Options on the File Explorer context menu or menu options in Task Manager.
- WSL: Fixed error 0x8007010b when accessing Linux distributions via ‘wsl.localhost’ or ‘wsl $’ (Issue # 6995).
Known bugs
general
- Users upgrading from builds 22000.xxx, or earlier, to newer builds in the Dev channel using the latest dev channel ISO, may receive the following warning message: The build you are trying to install is signed. To continue with the installation, enable signing. If we receive this message, press the Enable button, restart the computer and try the update again.
- Some users may experience that their screen and sleep times are shortened. They are investigating the potential impact that shorter screen and sleep timeouts could have on power consumption.
Beginning
- In some cases, you won’t be able to enter text when using Start Search on the Taskbar. If this happens to you, press WIN + R to open the Run dialog and then close it.
Taskbar
- The taskbar will sometimes flicker when switching between different input methods.
- They are working on a problem that causes toolbar help text to appear in an unexpected location after hovering over the corner of the taskbar.
Entry
The clipboard history indicates that it is empty even when it is active and should have content. This is a bug in the interface they are investigating.
Search
- After clicking the Search icon on the taskbar, the Search panel may not open. If this happens, restart the process of the “Windows Explorer” and reopen the search panel.
Quick actions
- They are investigating some reports from Insiders where the volume and brightness control is not displaying properly in Quick Actions.
