A cell phone technician Colombia, called Wilmer Becerra, but recognized as Wiltech, became international thanks to social networks and his surprising ability to fix any team that is put in front of him. His specialty? iPhones discarded by official Apple repair services.
When the Cupertino giant says “they are no longer useful” or “they are beyond repair,” Wiltech appears and checks them to the point that they are put to work optimally. Due to this practice, the Colombian technician received a threatening letter from Apple, warning him to take legal action if he continues doing this work.
At Apple they were not happy with Wilmer’s work and issued him a warning, arguing that he is posing as an official company service. The same technician clarifies on his networks that he is an independent worker who became an expert in the Cupertino giant’s cell phones. In addition, he explains that he clarifies this to clients who look to him for an urgent solution so as not to lose their device.
He has recently offered new details of how the problem was resolved, revealing delicate moments in which he became scared and went to legal advisors, because he believed he would face a huge lawsuit against one of the largest technology wings in the world.
Wilmer Becerra spoke with Daily Week about the situation.
“Apple sent me a statement by email telling me that they were accusing me of irregular actions for using a logo, supposedly impersonating an official technical service, and for using fake parts. Furthermore, they told me that for all those actions for which they were blaming me I could receive four to eight years in prison. I saw that as a kind of harassment against what I was doing,” says the cell phone technician.
“I made the situation known to some lawyers who were advising me, many said no, that it was something very serious and complicated; Others told me that it was a simple statement and not a complaint as such. However, I responded to them defending myself from what they accused me of: I told them that I no longer used the Apple logo and that the photos that appear are old,” he explained.
After his case went viral, Apple lowered their tone and the talks were more friendly, in which they clarified that there were no complaints or threats of fines. In fact, they even gave him a form for him to apply to be an authorized agent of the company in the country of his activities, Colombia.
