Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings from Marvel Studios will be released exclusively in theaters, will the same thing happen with The Eternals?
It looks like the box office fiasco with Black widow, and the legal problems involved in simultaneous premieres in movie theaters and on the Disney + platform with premium access have caused Disney to reconsider whether or not to continue with this type of premieres, if we knew the news that Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings would be released exclusively in theaters, now Disney CEO Bob Chapek has confirmed during a third-quarter earnings call that The Eternals It will keep its premiere date in November and that it will not be released simultaneously on Disney +.
On Twitter by Aaron Couch, Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed during a third-quarter earnings call that when he said that The Eternals is a 2022 title, it was referring to fiscal year 2022. The release date of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is still set for November 5, 2021.
It will be released exclusively in theaters
It was also recently revealed that The Eternals would not be released simultaneously in theaters and on Disney +, following a commercial for the film that aired during the 2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics that ended with the phrase “Only in theaters on November 5”. This differs from other recent films that received two premieres, such as Black Widow, Cruella and Jungle Cruise. However, these simultaneous releases have generated some controversy, especially after Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney, alleging that the company violated its contract by releasing the film on Disney + Premier Access.
The Eternals It will not be the only UCM film released exclusively in theaters. In the same third-quarter earnings call, Chapek also confirmed that Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings will also be released in theaters, and he said “It will be an interesting experiment for us”, since the performance of the film in theaters will serve to plan strategies for future Disney releases. Shang-Chi hits theaters on September 3.
Directed by Chloé Zhao from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo, The Eternals hits theaters on November 5.
