One of the villains who have stolen the camera in The Suicide Squad is Polka-Dot Man, a villain who, far from causing laughter, may be the most terrible in the entire DC Universe.
Who is the scariest villain in the DC Universe? Forget the Joker, he’s just a clown. Move over Lex Luthor, you can’t even grow a mullet. Step aside Darkseid, you may be a new god, but you are not as powerful as the great Polka-Dot Man!
Don’t Miss: The Suicide Squad – Review and Criticism (NO SPOILERS)
That’s right, we’re talking about Polka-Dot Man. Are you rolling your eyes? Don’t act so smug dear reader, Polka-Dot Man has left Batman cowering. Have you ever scared the Dark Knight?
With Polka-Dot Man making his film debut this weekend in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, let’s take a look at his dotted background sheet on the DC Universe.
Dick Grayson was Robin before he became Nightwing, Wally West was Kid Flash before he became Flash, and Abner Krill was Mr. Polka-Dot before graduating from Polka-Dot Man. That’s right, like most of the epic characters in DC, Polka-Dot Man had to evolve. Polka-Dot first appeared in Detective Comics # 300, which tells you right away how important it is. This was the 300th issue of Detective Comics, the first title DC published!
The first appearance
Let’s start with the cover, which shows Batman and Robin fleeing in terror as Mr. Polka-Dot shoots his kill points at them. “Great Scott! One of the points of the fantastic criminal costume has become a flying saucer! And that other one who stole has turned into a blazing sun, ”shouts the Knight of the Night. That’s right, Mr. Polka-Dot can conjure miniature suns! Things are getting crazy, and this is just the cover. Imagine seeing this on the newsstand in 1962.
The story begins with Batman and Robin foiling a robbery at Spot Service Cleaning Company (because Abner is always on the mark). As the dynamic duo fight thieves, their fearless leader reveals himself. Dressed in a white jumpsuit with colored polka dots, the criminal mastermind introduces himself: “Call me – Mr. Polka dots. A strange name, but appropriate. Because I will use my inventive points to make my name known throughout the underworld, ”he says.
Polka-Dot quickly demonstrates her power. Start by turning one of your points into a BUZZSAW and throwing it at our heroes! I don’t know about you, but I think it’s a nice metal move.
Later in the story, Polka-Dot explains to her men that each point in her costume is connected with a set of wires and when she lets go of them, they expand and become her tricks. As the story progresses, Polka-Dot showcases more of its dots, including flying saucers, blazing blazing suns, potato bubbles, giant fists, and more.
Consider this: he built all of this himself. Can Batman’s tool belt do these things? Batman and Robin can finally defeat Mr. Polka-Dot, but it takes everything they had. Remember, Batman has looked death in the eye countless times and faced DC’s greatest super-criminals, yet in this debut issue, he flees in fear of Mr. Polka-Dot. That should tell you something about this so-called “joke villain.”
Meet the new Polka Dot-Man
Sadly, they wouldn’t see Mr. Polka-Dot again for 34 years, and by then he had already changed his name to Polka-Dot Man. You might think that the name change meant that he had stepped up his game and added more saws. of buzz to his arsenal, but sadly when we met Polka-Dot Man in Batman: GCPD # 1, he had fallen into hard times. He seemed a bit deranged and was attacking police officers with a baseball bat, which is silly when the circular saw points are there. “Stay away or the dots are all you wrote,” yells Polka-Dot Man, unfortunately.
The confrontation ends on how you would expect it. Harvey Bullock takes the baseball bat from Polka-Dot Man and nearly knocks him to death. Of course, Polka-Dot Man still laughs one last time hitting Harvey where it hurts – a complaint of brutality! Bullock is forced to attend a series of excruciating therapy sessions, which drives him crazy. Maybe there is a method to the Polka-Dot Man madness here after all. Fun fact: here we also learn that his real name is Abner Krill.
For a time, Abner boils down to a series of cameos depicting him as one of Gotham’s z-list villains. Finally, your favorite crazy villain made his triumphant return in a limited series called Final Crisis Aftermath: Run.
A strange but powerful character named General Immortus recruits Abner to join his team of villains, even helping him improve his characteristic points. They can now teleport! After joining, Abner gifts his teammates with stories of how he fought Batman, but for some reason they don’t seem overly impressed.
The end of a legend
Unfortunately, Immortus’ team is betrayed by the Human Flame, and during the battle, Polka-Dot Man comes to an end when his skull is crushed by a falling sewer.
However, a sewer can almost be considered a point, so perhaps there is some irony in how it comes out. However, it is also something that exists largely to prevent people from falling into sewage, so there is no denying that this is not the best Polka-Dot Man moment in the DC Universe.
From vignettes to the big screen
Polka-Dot Man is quite a ridiculous villain, with a laughable motif and a costume that would take a beating in any high school. I wanted to make it sound great, but there is a limit to what I can do. Do you know who could do it?
James Gunn.
Suicide Squad’s Polka-Dot Man, played by David Dastmalchian, has a different backstory and power set, and while I don’t want to screw it up, I think you may find yourself at the team’s moon point when all is said and done. done.
There’s so much more to Polka-Dot Man than just a goofy costume and name. He has been a formidable villain, a desperate one and now, in The Suicide Squad, an understanding one. Will he ever become someone popular who can stand alongside well-known Batman villains?
Assuming you can somehow survive your time working for Amanda Waller, Dot isn’t such a crazy idea.

Do you accept the new mission of the Suicide Squad? Meet her at SMASH and DC Comics México
When the Suicide Squad is assigned to neutralize a group of international super terrorists known as The Revolutionaries, the last thing they expect is for the survivors to join the team!
Harley Quinn and Deadshot are veterans of the squad, and it will be difficult for them to trust their new companions – the very targets they sent to kill. Maybe this new team will survive the mission … but it is very likely that they will kill each other, so do not get attached to any of them.
SMASH and DC Comics Mexico bring you DC Comics Deluxe – Suicide Squad: Bad Blood, a story by Tom Taylor and the lines of Bruno Redondo, which you cannot miss.
