In an interview with The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith podcast, one of the writers of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Erik Sommers, explained why they included Matt Murdock’s cameo in the script, and why Dardevil did not appear.
“That was the challenge with this movie: incorporating all these other characters. We love these characters, and you’d love to see them do all sorts of things, but the question is, what do we have room for? I could see any of these characters that we brought in do another movie on their own or in some various combination, but we have to serve the story of our Peter Parker and our Spider-Man, no matter how tempting.Sommers said.
Daredevil, the great “absent” from Spider-Man: No Way Home
Sommers noted that while it was exciting to have Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdock after a three-year absence following the end of the Daredevil series, his newsroom’s intention was to focus on the plot with Tom Holland.
“At the end of the day, we couldn’t do much. We didn’t want to do things that would distract from the story of our Peter and our Spider-Man. So absolutely, once we knew we were going to have Matt Murdock, it’s like, ‘He could do this, he could do that.”.
In the week leading up to the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed Charlie Cox’s return as Daredevil in upcoming MCU projects, as SMASH reported to you in a timely manner.
“If you were to see Daredevil in the next things, Charlie Cox, yes, he would be the actor who plays Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen”.
Some reports that the comicbook reproduces indicate that Charlie Cox could return in the She-Hulk series, which will premiere in 2022
