Since the film was released digitally, many viewers have noticed that there are different versions of Through the Spider-Verse, the latest animated Spider-Man adventure. The changes are small and do not affect the general narrative structure of the film at all, but the fact that they are there has drawn attention.
Producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller finally explained the differences after a lot of noise was made on social media about it. His explanation came as part of an interview with Game Radar. There, when addressing the subject, Miller said the following:
«There was an international version that was made almost two months before the movie came out [en cines] because it had to be translated into different languages and the French censors have to decide what the rating of the film is in Europe. The Sony Pictures Imageworks team still had a few shots that they felt could be improved for the final version. So they cleaned up and touched up those things.”

The different versions of Through the Spider-Verse they can be identified by small changes in the opening sequence and some details in the animation of the battles.
This happened because a large part of the animation team made the decision to correct the material, all with the aim of not being incomplete, to put it in some way. What they wanted to achieve was to create an experience that everyone in the audience loved.
Miller commented on this:
“Certain members of the team – people from the sound department or the animation team – were like, ‘Oh, could we do this better?’ Let’s make the best version possible. Since it’s a multiverse movie, it’s like there’s a multiverse to the movie, that was really the reasoning. It was about making the best possible version that everyone would be most proud of.”
To which Lord added: “I think most of the changes are improvements.”

Jose Roberto Landaverde I love writing, listening, reading and commenting on everything related to cinema. I love music and am a fan of The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Paramore. My favorite movies are Rocky and Back to the Future and obviously one day I’ll climb the “Philly Steps” and drive a DeLorean. Faithful believer that cinema is the best teleportation machine, and also that on the big screen we can all see ourselves represented.
