In December 2022, in one of his daily morning conferences, President López Obrador introduced Ebrard and other potential presidential hopefuls for Morena. It was when the presidential race practically opened in which the Mexican opposition seemed not to be invited.
Expert, strategist, diplomat

With a long history under his arm
Ebrard, who graduated with a degree in International Relations and studied in France, began working for the public administration in the city in 1985, the year of the devastating earthquake that devastated the Mexican capital.
At that time, he was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), where he remained until 1995, when he left it together with Manuel Camacho Solís (1946-2015), disappointed by the alleged betrayal of the tricolor to his principles and to Mexico, to found the Democratic Center Party. (PCD).
It was at this stage that Ebrard ran to be the head of government of the Mexican capital for the 2000 elections, but he declined his candidacy to support López Obrador and joined his cause.
Ebrard later made a political career in the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) and developed his highest responsibilities in the shadow of López Obrador, with whom he was Secretary of Public Security from 2002 to the end of 2004.
Subsequently, he was head of the Government of Mexico City between 2006 and 2012. In 2015 he had to leave the country and lived in Paris during the investigation opened against him for anomalies on Line 12 of the subway, a work built in his administration.
Precisely that line collapsed in May 2021, causing the death of 26 people and leaving more than 100 people injured. That tragedy caused a political earthquake that hit Ebrard himself and the current head of government, Claudia Sheinbaum, both candidates for the Presidency in 2024.
