This week, Spotify reported its financial results for the second quarter of the year (April-June), highlighting that it already has 365 million subscribers, of which 158 million pay for the premium service.
This also meant a year-on-year growth of 20 and 22% in each category of users, but what is most striking is that there is no other streaming service that can boast that same number of users, neither in the music business nor in the video.
Last week, Netflix also revealed that during the second quarter of the year it reached 209 million users, that is, 156 million subscribers less than Spotify.
For its part, Disney + reported in March this year a total of 100 million subscribers, 265 less than the Spotify base.
Is any music service coming close to Spotify?
Few companies share user numbers in the music streaming market. However, the figures Musically’s most up-to-date they serve to determine the dominance of Spotify in the music streaming business.
Apple Music
Estimates through June of this year reveal that Apple Music is the second most subscriber music streaming service on the market. The latest official figures from the Cupertino company stood at 60 million subscribers, however, Musically estimates that it currently has 77.9 million subscribers.
Unlike Spotify, Apple Music doesn’t offer any kind of free subscription.
Amazon Music
Next on the list is Amazon Music, which in January 2020 revealed that it had 55 million subscribers between direct subscriptions and those who pay Prime and have access to Prime Music.
It is estimated that Amazon Music already has 63.3 million subscribers.
Tencent Music
The Chinese firm has in its possession three music streaming services, QQ Music, Kugou and Kuwo, which at the end of March had 615 million users. However, despite the number of users being almost double that of Spotify, the company only has 63.3 million subscribers, less than half of those claimed by the Swedish service.
Youtube music
Another service that outnumbers Spotify is YouTube Music, which is home to 2 billion music listeners. However, most users do not pay for a YouTube Music or YouTube Premium subscription.
According to Musically, YouTube Music has approximately 39 million subscribers, so its business model is still based on advertising.
Deezer
This streaming service of French origin assured that it has 16 million active users per month, however, for more than a year the subscriber figures have not been updated.
Unlike the other services, Musically estimates that Deezer has lost subscribers with the growth of its competitors, therefore the company must have about 9.7 million subscribers.
