What is Black Friday?
In the mid-1950s, in the city of Philadelphia, United States, an American football game would take place between members of the Army and the Navy. However, the city was overwhelmed by traffic because it would take place after Thanksgiving.
The police officers who did not have days off because they worked 12-hour days to control the crowds that packed the city are credited with calling this day “Black Friday.”
The initiative was successful and soon Philadelphia merchants began using that term to describe the hordes of people who gathered in the city’s stores the day after Thanksgiving.
When is Black Friday?
Black Friday 2023 will take place on Friday, November 24. Three days later Cyber Monday will take place.
Although it has its origin in the United States and many of the offers are from stores originating in the neighboring country, many companies join this “Black Friday” season and offer discounts both physically and online.
