The UN on women’s day
In 975, International Women’s Year was celebrated, so the United Nations began to commemorate International Women’s Day (March 8). Two years later, the General Assembly of the United Nations officially formalized this day, despite the fact that its first celebration dates back to February 28, 1909, when the Socialist Party of America designated the day in memory of the strike of workers in the sector textile the previous year in New York.
This year coincided with International Women’s Year. The first World Conference on Women takes place in Mexico, from June 19 to July 2, 1975. In this conference, a ten-year world action plan is formulated for its promotion, after which the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaims the years 1976-1985 as the United Nations Decade for Women: Equality, Development and Peace in order to implement it.
