The arrival of Windows 11 served as motivation for the WhatsApp team, which made its app a native application. This came in beta phase in November, and unlike previous versions, it is developed under the Universal Windows Platform (UWP), which makes it more optimal and functional. The app, however, is not adapted to aesthetics of the new version of Microsoft’s operating system, but it seems that it is something that will change soon.
According to a user on Twitter, WhatsApp has started making use of WinUI 2.6, Microsoft’s user interface library, to modify some of the main elements of the app. This means that the icons, buttons and other visual components, therefore, will be adapted to a Fluent Design style, the aesthetics of Windows 11. That is, we will see new tones and colors, light shading, more rounded corners, etc..
This will make the WhatsApp app fit in with other Windows interface elements, as well as other system apps. The browsing experience, therefore, will be more homogeneous.
At the moment, the new interface is under development, and it seems that it is not yet available in the beta version of WhatsApp. However, and taking into account that the images shared by the Twitter user show all the elements completely adapted to Fluent Design, it is likely that the company will start rolling out the new design in the coming weeks.
You can now try the native version of WhatsApp on Windows
Meanwhile, the WhatsApp native app for Windows 11 —also available in Windows 10— can now be downloaded from the Microsoft Store. Although it is still in beta phase and may contain some bugs, it is a faster and better adapted version than the one that we can download from the WhatsApp website. This one, in particular, works under Electron, a framework that makes use of web technology to create a version desktop In a simple way. The one that is included in the Microsoft app store and that is shown in beta, on the other hand, is native.
The version of WhatsApp for Windows 11 also allows you to use the most outstanding functions of the messaging app, such as the improved multi-device mode or the possibility of making calls and video calls. You can download it from here.
