First of all, it is necessary to remember that to access this stage it is mandatory to pass the National Examination of Aspirants to Medical Residencies (ENARM). It is classified as one of the most complex tests that exist because only 40 percent get a place.
What values should medical residents have?
The last days of February are held resident graduations in all hospitals in the country. With this in mind, the head of the Ministry of Health (SSa), Jorge Alcocerparticipated in the ceremony for the end of the 2024 postgraduate courses of the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Nutrition “Salvador Zubirán” (INCMNSZ).

Within the values that all medical residents should have, highlighted empathy. He stated that the ability to perceive, share and understand patients in offices, classrooms and laboratories should never be lacking.
“I learned that you must always be tireless and firm to promote a medical profession with social value, as well as generate knowledge that prevents harm and has an impact in favor of the community.”
He further stressed that the diversity of medicine cannot be limited to addressing comorbidities and the clinical management of multifaceted diseases.
How many medical residents graduated from INCMNSZ?
As part of the 2024 ceremony, they graduated 122 INCMNSZ specialists. Of the 68 with indirect entry, there were 40 men and 28 women, who completed studies after completing one or more years of medical specialty.
Likewise, 54 were direct entry, of which there were 34 men and 20 women, who entered after completing their degree in medicine. Of the total, seven are foreigners.

Regarding the highly specialized postgraduate courses in medicine, he explained that today 106 doctors graduated, 51 men and 55 women; 28 from Latin America.
He pointed out that specialists graduate from an institution aimed at generating knowledge that allows diagnosing and treating diseases, and influencing those factors that make the population sick, such as environmental problems, addictions, migration, social and economic problems.
Likewise, he explained that the medical profession makes sense when it is practiced for the benefit of the people who need it most, in whom diseases germinate and spread.
The generation of pandemic residents
The general director of INCMNSZ, José Sifuentes Osornio, highlighted that this generation of doctors began and complemented their postgraduate training during the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused substantive modifications in the training program to achieve the proposed goals.
The health emergency also required more time for medical care, as well as an unavoidable commitment to patients and the institution, sacrifice of time with family members, risk of caring for patients with an infectious disease, and, above all, resilience to face this condition. unprecedented for human life.
