For Michael Keaton, Tim Burton’s job as Batman was a watershed in the way Hollywood makes movies based on comics.
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the production of films based on comics has gradually increased, but in the opinion of Michael Keaton, the actor who gave life to Batman in 1989 and 1992, this genre would not be understood without Tim Burton.

Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, Keaton recognized the work of Tim Burton, the director with whom he worked on the two Batman films he has made. For Keaton, Tim Burton opened the door to a new way of making comic book movies, as well as driving a business that finds adaptations a major source of income.
“What Tim did changed everything… Everything you see now started with him. If you really think about what happened between 1989 and now, on a cultural, business and economic level, it is incredible.”.
Despite the fact that in 2022 Keaton will return to play Bruce Wayne / Batman in The Flash movie, the actor said he was surprised by the fascination for these films, something that he still cannot fully understand.
“After the first Batman, I’m not sure I’ve seen an entire (comic) movie… I just never got to. So you’re talking to a guy who was not in the spirit of the age for that whole world”.
With the script by Christina Hodson, The Flash will be directed by Argentine filmmaker Andrés Muschetti and will feature Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / Flash, Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, and Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, both as Bruce Wayne / Batman.
