Psychoanalysis is a therapeutic technique that seeks to give responses to behaviors, deciphering what is stored in the unconscious. In fact, it allows you to break with overwhelming thoughts that block the ability to develop personality and keep emotions stable.
Because, according to this theory, repressed instinctual impulses have an impact on the adult’s way of being; whether it’s; in the way of thinking, acting or feeling. Likewise, the psychoanalyst intends with this method to help the individual to have a more balanced life; breaking paradigms that limit it.
Psychoanalysis seeks to decipher the truth hidden in the unconscious
In fact, psychoanalysis is indicated to treat psychological disorders in individuals of any age. Since, he insists on discovering what are the reasons for fear, obsessions, anguish, depression or addictive behaviors. In addition, it becomes a palliative method against the symptoms of psychosomatic diseases such as neurodermatitis or irritable bowel.1
It can be said that the way each person speaks, moves or looks says a lot about their personality. In the same way, the psychoanalyst makes a diagnosis of behavior, interpreting a grammatical sentence or an image. With various techniques that bring out traumatic situations or adverse events that marked the life of the individual.
Free association is the main technique of psychoanalysis; since the patient voluntarily exposes what he thinks is happening. This makes the therapist associate the responses with psychological flaws, emotional disorders or behavioral factors. In such a way, that it works; psychologically speaking; on these specific situations, recognizing from the beginning that there is a problem.2
In a similar way, psychoanalysis seeks to apply methods where dreams, behavior, thoughts and the perception of facts are analyzed. In such a way that, through catharsis, empowerment and persuasion; the patient manages to interrupt the blockages that prevent him from moving forward with dreams; have constructive relationships and above all be happy.
What is sought with this technique?
It is clear that this type of therapy aims for the patient to recognize that the situation he is experiencing and his behavior depend on an internal conflict; that requires an immediate solution. Since, acceptance is the first step in opening the door to treatment; that on many occasions it will take time and require the accompaniment of medications.
This is how psychoanalysis uses word association evaluation systems; incomplete sentence test; narration and complement of stories and oral composition; to learn a little more about hidden psychopathologies. Hoping that, by discovering, analyzing and accepting them, action strategies will be established to close cycles. Through forgiveness, constructive criticism, and resilience.3
In conclusionPsychoanalysis can be expected to help recognize weaknesses and threats; that exist in the unconscious and mark life. In such a way, that the opportunities and strengths come to the surface; improving behavior; managing emotions and feelings. Creating a reality, full of well-being.
