That report was rejected by five of the nine committee members.
Two opposition lawmakers presented the case against Lasso on Tuesday, before the president made his own defense before the National Assembly.
“They have created a fictitious situation that does not solve the country’s or anyone’s problems,” Lasso said in his defense, referring to his opponents.
CONAIE, Ecuador’s largest indigenous organization, says it will convene an “extraordinary” council to discuss the matter and criticized Lasso’s decision as dictatorial.
The army and police pledged to respect the constitution and the law, adding that Lasso’s decision to dissolve the legislature and call early elections is enshrined in Ecuador’s constitution.
Several opposition politicians, including Esteban Torres, one of those who brought the case against Lasso on Tuesday, have denounced the president’s decision as unconstitutional.
