Incredible as it may seem, Poland has become one of the standards of world video game development and much of the blame lies with CD Project. Now CD Projekt RED turns 20 and we celebrate it by reviewing his career and talking about his future. The company began its journey almost three decades ago as a distributor and publisher based in Warsaw, but its real step forward came in 2002, when it created its division dedicated to the development of interactive entertainment under the name of CD Projekt RED. Five years later we had the opportunity to play the title that would make them famous: The Witcher.
The Polish studio got the rights to the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski for a very low price (the novelist was financially compensated years later) and catapulted a franchise that had gone unnoticed until then to fame. the witcher was rudimentary in many respects, but it was also a gripping Western RPG with a story to remember. The definitive leap came in 2011, with the premiere of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the game that definitely brought CD Projekt RED to the first line of the international media scene. So much so, that the expectation for the third installment of the saga was one of the most impressive that has ever been experienced.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one before and one after for the genre and for the company, as it also marked the beginning of independent titles of the card game that it included, such as Gwent: The Witcher Card Game or Thronebreaker. His next work, in fact, reached such a huge hype which ended up turning against him. Cyberpunk 2077 came out early, with major bugs that weighed down the experience. Although the game is now fixed and one of the best titles in recent years, the CD Projekt RED image was damaged because of it.

What can we expect in the future from CD Projekt RED? The most immediate is, precisely, the cyberpunk 2077 story expansionjust like him new The Witcher, which is already in the pre-production phase but of which we do not know any details. The Polish company will continue to work on these two great universes as the central axis of its future, but other surprises should not be ruled out. Be that as it may, and despite the setbacks on the stock market, CD Projekt has a splendid future ahead of it thanks to these two licenses that continue to generate enormous interest among RPG fans.
